More of {should-be-supermodel} Terice
Remember yesterday? When I shared my venture into the unknown world of using an umbrella to bounce light outdoors? Here's a reminder:
ISO: 400
aperture: f/4.0
shutter speed: 1/200
Taken at 7:52 pm with Nikon D700 and 50mm f/1.8 lens
Well, this is the exact same evening. Just a couple of minutes before I started using the flash:
ISO: 1250
aperture: f/2.2
shutter speed: 1/320
spot metering
Taken at 7:50 pm with Nikon D700 and 50mm f/1.8 lens
You'll notice I had to bump my ISO up in order to get the natural lighting shot. That's because with the sun going down, there wasn't a whole lotta available light to work with.
I'm amazed at how you can get a totally different look with natural lighting. And honestly, I love both looks. Once again, natural lighting is easier for me ~ it's what I'm used to doing. But I'm definitely going to have to venture into this unknown world of flashes and light stands and umbrellas and reflectors and whatnot more often. Because it's fun.
Here are a few more of my favorite natural lighting shots ...
(And you all agree with me, right? That Terice should be a super model? It was very fun to have someone pose themselves ... all I had to do was make sure I was properly exposed and fire away):
I've decided it is my personal mission to get an all-out-laughing shot every time I take someone's picture. I just love seeing happy people:
So, now I have to ask ... which is your favorite? Artificial or natural lighting? Leave a comment and let me know! And it's okay if you are like me ... and hate picking favorites ... I really do love them both :).

Against the water, I am loving the artificial lighting because the blues are so deep. Against the log, I am loving both for different reasons. These are really great pics. Add them to your portfolio!!!
Yes, she should be a model! I agree with Becca, I love the first one for the colors! That should definitely be on your website!
Love them all--but I, too, love the blues with the flash/umbrella. Man, I need a camera that can handle high ISOs better! They look great (and at almost 8 p.m.!)
As long as she's over 5'8, modeling could be in get future. She ought to add these to her portfolio. I like the natural lighting. It looks more...natural.
Flash! Without hesitation; I say this simply because I love working at low ISO. I love my gadgets and equipment. Won't leave home without it. Terice sadly is only going to be a print model, since she's 5'5". Love my sister though, she's amazing as a person and in front of a camera. I added some fun elements to one of my shots of her, thought I'd share.

Again, had a great time on this shooting side by side with you Heidi, I'm glad we're friends.
Hmmm....I like both too, they're great in their own ways! But it this series of photos, I'd have to say my favorite would be the artificial light shot - it's just got so much more POW! to it :)
My favorite is the black and white, definitely! Her expression is so natural, the composition is great, and her eyes are so dramatic!
But as between the natural and flash, it's hard to pick. For that time of night, I probably prefer the flash, but overall I tend to like the natural light looks more. But I agree that it's to your benefit to be able to do both!
I like the ones against the water! Love the darkness in the back! The tones are great!
